Paint-a-Dwarf contest winners, calendar, and other special announcements...and a new contest too!

Thanks to everybody who turned out to compete in the P&P Paint-a-Dwarf competition. Here are the winners.

In the 12-and-under category, we only had one entry. Congratulations Garrett on a job well done. Here he painted one of the models from Reaper's Dark Heaven Legends Army Packs > 06044: Dwarven Warriors

As usual, we had two prizes available, one for each first-place winner of each category. The 12-and-under winner gets to choose his/her prize first. Garrett chose an unpainted Reaper miniature > 14451: Durthen, Dwarven Berserker on Boar

We had three 13-and-older competitors. It was a hard choice to make because all were very good both in concept and execution.

Third place went to Matt for his work on another model from the 06044 Dwarven Warrior Army Pack.

Second place went to Garrett's mother (talent runs in this family) for her dwarf from the DHL Army Pack > 06040: Dwarven Miners

First place went to Dan, who painted up 14082: Margara, Dwarf Mage from Reaper's Warlord line of minis.

Dan took home the other first-prize, a set of HirstArts Battle Arena dungeon tiles and accessories.

CONGRATULATIONS EVERYBODY for making this a great competition!

We will not be doing P&T this next Sunday, but will return the Sunday after. August should be a fun month for us thanks to the upcoming release of Reaper's 2nd Edition Warlord miniatures game. I know a few of you have already begun building some small armies. Warlord is the perfect introduction to miniature gaming because it's fun, fast, and doesn't require hundreds or even more than a dozen models to play.

We will also hopefully have more chances to resume playing Swords & Wizardry at our P&T sessions. Thanks to thousands of other folks just like you for playing and spreading the word, S&W has become a popular name in roleplaying games... so much so that its publisher, Mythmere Games, is hoping to make the books available in game stores through regular distributors JUST like the other big RPG companies. Of course the free version is stll available on Lulu.com as a PDF download too for those who haven't yet gotten in on the fun.

Also, S&W and Mythmere Games have been nominatef for ENnie Awards. S&W for Best Free Product and Mythmere Games for Fan Award Best Publisher. This is a real big deal for an "upstart" like S&W, so feel free to add your vote too.

And finally, announcing our next CONTEST!!!!

PAINT-A-WEREWOLF!!!

The rules and categories are as before, except this time we'll be judging to see who paints the best wolf-man or lupine-warrior model. If you aren't sure about whether or not a model qualifies, just drop me an email at spikepage(at)att.net or reply to this post.

  • Contest entry must be a model representing a werewolf, wolf-man or lupine-warror.
  • The model must be by Reaper Miniatures, and can be from any of their product lines except of course their Legendary Encounters pre-painted plastic line.
  • Entry must be painted entirely by the person entering it.
  • Participants must be present at the time of judging to win.
  • Participants compete in either the 12-and-under or 13-and-up category.
  • 1st prizes will be awarded in each of the two categories.
  • This contest is free and opened to anybody, not just P&P club regulars.
Judging will take place on Sunday, September 20 at 4pm at Hobbytown USA in Kennesaw. Good luck, and may the best wolfie win.

I’m very proud to announce that the second printing of the Swords & Wizardry Core Rules is now available for free download here: Free PDF of Core Rules and that print versions are for sale (and super-cheap) at Lulu.com at our storefront

Swords & Wizardry is an OGL “retro-clone” of the original fantasy roleplaying game created by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson. The Core Rules also contain some selected material from the supplements (1974-1978). With a thriving internet community and tons of support products, Swords & Wizardry is bringing back a lost style of fantasy roleplaying. Forget huge rulebooks - just play. If you can imagine it, you can do it in Swords & Wizardry. The rules are simple and quick to learn, and they are infinitely flexible and expandable. Take the basic framework and “Imagine the heck out of it!”

Swords & Wizardry is supported by Knockspell Magazine, the quarterly magazine of fantasy retro-clone gaming, and by the active forums at http://www.swordsandwizardry.com/forum.
